What is BRT?
BRT stands for Bus Rapid Transportation. It is a mean of transportation that simulates some characteristics of the subway, such as segregated routes, level boarding, payment outside the vehicles and customer information, which gives you the qualities of a high capacity transportation system. It is present in more than 200 cities in all continents.
What is BRT Consortium?
It is a private organization that gathers the collective transportation companies, with the purpose of operating the BRT system in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. Besides service delivery, BRT Consortium is responsible for cleaning and preserving the stations.
Which services are available on BRT Rio?
Express: it stops at express service stations and, at certain times, at some stations of parador service. (For example: Pingo D´Água x Alvorada, that, from 9am to 4pm, stops at Ilha de Guaratiba)
Parador: it stops at all stations.
Direct: special service that only stops at the final station.
Semidirect: special service that stops at few stations.
How to know the interval of the services offered by the BRT?

What is the average traveling time of the main services offered by the BRT?

What is a feeder line?
Feeder lines work as a complement of the system, connecting a neighborhood and a station of BRT Rio. They are common buses, with their own visual identity, that stop at conventional bus stops.
How to know which service is more convenient?
The user can choose the form that suits him to commute among BRT Rio corridors. He can combine the different services, in order to have a faster or more comfortable trip.
What are the business hours of the services, the intervals between the buses and the duration of a trip?

How many stations does BRT Rio have?
With 60 kilometers of extension, Transoeste corridor has 62 stations and 4 terminals (Alvorada, Santa Cruz, Campo Grande and Jardim Oceânico). Transcarioca, with 39 km of extension, has 45 stations and five terminals (Alvorada, Fundão, Tanque, Taquara and Madureira). Transolímpica corridor, with 18 stations and 3 terminals (Recreio, Centro Olímpico and Sulacap) has 26 kilometers of exclusive road.
What are the types of stations and the differences among them?
There are double stations, that receive express and parador services, and the express or parador stations, which only receive express and parador services, respectively.
What are the business hours of the stations?
The stations can work 24h or at varied times, that can be from 4am to 11pm, 4am to 1am, 5am to 11pm and 5 am to 1 am. To check the business hours of a station, visit the website on the Station session. Note, however, that the business hours of the ticket offices are not the same as the stations.
What is the bus fare charged in BRT Rio?
BRT Rio charges the fare defined by Rio de Janeiro City Government to Bilhete Único Carioca (Carioca Single Ticket), R$ 4.05 (three reais and ninety five cents), the same valid to the entire city urban bus system since February 2nd, 2019.
What is the time interval between the integrations?
The time interval is the same of Bilhete Único Carioca, that is 2 hours and 30 minutes between boarding. If the person also makes an intermunicipal boarding, the time is 3 hours (Bilhete Único Intermunicipal)
What types of cards are accepted on BRT?
Besides the Bilhete Único Carioca, RioCard cards and Bilhete Único Metropolitano can be used on BRT Rio with the same advantages. The exception is Vale-Transporte Rápido (Rapid Transportation Voucher) that, despite the fact that it can be used for joining the system, due to its nature it does not guarantee the fare benefits of Bilhete Único Carioca.
Where do we buy and how to recharge Bilhete Único Carioca?
Bilhete Único Carioca card can be acquired at the box offices in BRT stations, at RioCard stores or on the Internet. On the first purchase, a value of R$ 3.00 is charged for the card, in addition to the fare, as free lease. This value can be reimbursed upon return of the card and it is not charged when the client chooses to sign up at the stores or on RioCards website. At most box offices of BRT Rio stations, the recharge can be made up to the limit of R$ 10.00 (see the exceptions on www.brtrio.com/noticia/recarga-do-bilhete-unico-no-brt-mudou). Above this value, the recharges can be made on RioCard ATMs at the stations
Is there a possibility of change when recharging on the ATMs?
No. The machines recharge with the total value inserted by the user. Therefore, there is not charge. We recommend prior counting of the recharge value in order to avoid problems.
Can BRT user change to other mean of transportation?
Bilhete Único Carioca has a fare integration system with conventional bus lines. In turn, there is physical and fare integration with the subway at Vicente de Carvalho and Jardim Oceânico stations. Fare integrations are also possible with other means of transportation with Bilhete Único. But, attention! Who is entitled to BRT Rio free travel pass?
BRT Rio follows the Organic Law of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, which, on its article 401, provides for free rides for people over 65 years old, students from public schools wearing uniform on school days, disabled people and their companions, upon presentation of a specific RioCard, and children up to five years old, without the need to present the card.
